His partners in this three-legged waltz are three poets (María Cristina Azcona, Diane Oatley and Susan Morales Guerra) who have each written a preface in one of the book's three languages, and have otherwise contributed their literary and translation talents. On the sidelines, watching this sometimes decadent and sometimes luscious waltz is the Chilean-born writer Fernando Rodríguez who has contributed with editorial and translation assistance.

Powell er født i Buffalo, USA i 1954, og har utdanning fra Goddard University (Bachelor of Arts i musikk og samfunnsvitenskap) og
fra New York University (Master of Public Administration - internasjonal/bistandsadministrasjon). Han ble norsk statsborger i 1995.

Jeg har jobbet som kommunalt og statsansatt i Norge i mange år, og har i tillegg vært sterkt engasjert i arbeid med hiv/aids,
innvandrer-/flyktningspørsmål og kulturpolitiske spørsmål.

Jeg er selvlært som billedkunstner. Jeg arbeidet som klassisk pianist i New York City i perioden 1975-1983, etter musikkstudier
under bl.a. Jacob Lateiner, Arminda Canteros og Berenice Lipson-Gruzen m.fl. Jeg er forfatter av "Notes of a Madman", utgitt på
forlaget Winston-Derek Publishers Inc. i 1987, og av flere andre arbeider publisert i litterære tidsskrifter i USA og Australia, og
oppført på scene i Norge (Black Box, Munch-museet m.fl.). Jeg var daglig leder, forfatter og regissør for Blått Paradis
danseteaterkompani f.o.m. 1987-t.o.m. 1990.

I toårsperioden 1996-1998 har jeg arbeidet med spørsmål som vedrører ytringsfrihet og -muligheter for innvandrete kunstnere, og i samme periode har jeg vært leder for Norges Kunstnerråds utvalg for innvandrete kunstnere, foredragsholder (Ytringsfrihetskommisjonen, Norges Kunstnerråd og på Norsk kulturråds seminar "Kunst uten grenser"), ledet en
spørreundersøkelse blant innvandrete kunstnere, og skrevet forslag til Norges Kunstnerråds innspill til Kunstnermeldingen m.m.

21. nov. 1998 ble jeg intervjuet om dette temaet i NRK P2s faste program "Jungeltelegrafen"; og 22. mai 1999 ble jeg intervjuet på Østlandssendingen (NRK P1 og på P2 den 5. juli 1999). Foredragsholder for NRKs kulturredaksjonsseminar 4. juni 1999. I mai 1999 dannet jeg organisasjonen AIM (Art in Motion) sammen med andre innvandrerkunstnere. Migrapolis reportasje om AIM med intervju med Powell (daglig leder) 20.10.99. Profilert som leder for Artists in Motion og som billedkunstner i 2000 av NKLF (Sammensatt bladet og på NKLFs nettside http://nklf.no/kunstnere/adam.html ). Organisator og jurymedlem for internasjonal billedkunst utstilling for ikke-nordiske billedkunstnere fra Norge, Sverige og Danmark (2000-2001).

Jeg har siden 1995 også drevet med annet samfunnspolitisk arbeid, med kunst som medium:

* Jeg etablerte og arrangerte kunstutstilling i forbindelse med Verdens AIDS-dag i 1995, 1996 og 1997 (intervju TVNorge 1997).

* Jeg har drevet prosjektet "Kunst på offentlige arbeidsplasser", hvor jeg gir tre kunstverk i året som donasjon til offentlige
institusjoner som gjør en betydelig samfunnsinnsats overfor hiv-positive og kronisk syke, men som ikke har budsjett til innkjøp avkunst eller utsmykking.
